Mitra Home AI Agent
Questions

Plain answers

Cost

Is Mitra Home free?

Yes. No subscription and no account with us. Everything described on this site is free today.

Will it stay free?

Yes. The PC app and the phone apps are free, Simple and Advanced alike, including bank sync. There is no paid plan, and the phone apps have no purchases and no ads.

What could cost money?

Only things you choose, paid directly to that company: an AI helper (often a few cents to a dollar a month on an API key, or a plan you already have), or the optional bank-sync bridge (SimpleFIN, about $1.50 a month).

Privacy and safety

Where is my data stored?

On your own computer, in a folder called Mitra-Home-Data. We do not run a server that stores your data, and we never see it.

Does anything leave my PC?

Only if you choose an online AI helper: the text of a paper it reads is sent to that provider, with names, account numbers, phone numbers and other identifiers hidden first. Choose a local model (Ollama) and nothing leaves the PC. Optional Google Drive briefs carry vendor names and amounts, never the original papers. Look things up online (Family > House, off until you turn it on) sends only the ZIP code, the state, the public name of a school, college or employer and the school year, to list schools near home, find a school calendar and show the local weather; never anyone's name, a street address or an account number.

Does it collect usage data?

No. No analytics, no tracking, no crash reports and no ads, on the PC or the phones. The only call it makes by itself is a once-a-day look for a new version (to GitHub, nothing about your family is sent), and you can turn that off in Settings > Data > Updates.

Is my data encrypted?

Your phones and the Mitra Wall talk to the PC over HTTPS on your home Wi-Fi, each paired with a one-time code. Backups can be encrypted with a passphrase you choose. The database on the PC is an ordinary file protected by your computer's sign-in; for full protection if the computer is lost or stolen, turn on disk encryption (BitLocker on Windows, FileVault on a Mac).

Does it log in to my bank?

No. It never asks for or stores bank or tax-site passwords. You download statements yourself and drop them in. Advanced users can turn on read-only bank sync through SimpleFIN Bridge, which uses a one-time token you create there, not your bank password.

What if a document contains strange instructions?

Mitra Home treats every document as data, never as instructions. A paper that tries to tell the AI what to do is set aside for you to look at.

Can my children use it?

Yes, with their own simple page: their jobs for today with their stars, their own items, family lists and birthdays. They never see money, and children do not use the AI.

What is the Mitra Wall?

An old tablet or iPad on the wall, paired with the PC from Settings > Phones. It shows the week and the month, today's plan, the children's jobs, the lists and the meals, and rests on a clock of your choice (several faces, and a red or amber night clock for a bedroom) and the family's photos. It never shows amounts: Money opens only when an adult types their own PIN, and locks itself after a minute. The tablet talks only to your PC on the home Wi-Fi; your photos stay on the PC. Try the Mitra Wall demo.

How do I back up, or leave?

A weekly backup runs automatically (encrypted if you choose). Settings > Data > Export all my data gives you every table as spreadsheet files, and your papers are plain files in the archive folder.

Using it

Do I need an AI subscription?

No. AI is optional. Reminders, lists, calendar, backups, bank CSV files and many statement PDFs work without it. AI mainly helps read unusual papers and answers questions like "how much did we spend on groceries?"

Does the PC need to stay on?

Mostly, yes. The daily brief, reminders and phone syncing happen on the PC. The phone app keeps the last copy, so you can still read it when the PC is off or you are away, and your changes are sent when you are back home.

Does it work on a Mac, Linux or iPhone?

Mac: yes, as a Mac app you drag into Applications (Apple silicon and Intel), tested less than Windows. Linux: not tested yet. Phones: free companion apps on Google Play (Android) and the App Store (iPhone); without the app, any phone can use its browser on your home Wi-Fi.

Can I use it away from home?

The phone app shows your last copy anywhere. For a live link away from home, install the free Tailscale app on the PC and your phones: Settings > Phones then shows an Away from home address to open in the phone's browser. Mitra Home never opens your PC to the internet.

Which countries does it support?

Amounts are in your currency. Tax papers, ID types and seasonal reminders come from a country profile; the United States is the most complete today.

What is the difference between Simple and Advanced?

Simple shows the everyday things: today, money (overview, spending, bills, regular), papers, calendar, lists, briefs and phones. Advanced lays Money out in lanes and adds insurance reviews, taxes, work hours, AI choices, Google links and chat bots. Same app, one switch, both free. See the full list.

About the project

Is it open source?

Yes, under the GNU AGPL. You can get the source code of any released version on request: see Source code. We plan to publish it in a public repository once testing with our first families is complete and the phone apps are approved in the app stores. The name "Mitra Home" and the logo are reserved for the official, signed releases.

Is this financial or legal advice?

No. Mitra Home keeps records and checklists. For tax, insurance, legal or medical decisions, confirm with a licensed professional.

Who makes it?

An independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic, OpenAI or Google. Published by CLOUDWARE EDGE LLC. The phone apps are listed through our organization's existing developer accounts, so the store page may show a different developer name (SlayHire.AI on Google Play); it is the same team and the same free app.
